ABOUT US MEET THE FLIPPENS! We established Bayou Meto Stables in January of 2012 to offer an equestrian center where people can enjoy the sport of horses. We have had a blessed life around horses for over thirty years, with involvement in trail riding, breeding, and competitive showing of American Quarter Horses. BAYOU METO STABLES is located in the central Arkansas area between Highway 107 and Centennial Road in Jacksonville, Arkansas. BMS is 25 minutes north of Little Rock, the state's capitol; 10 minutes from the Sherwood and Cabot areas; and 6 minutes from the Little Rock Air Force Base. We reside on the 18-acre property, and our horses are monitored several times a day. Amenities include, but are not limited to, cross-fencing; 12 X 12 stalls with adjoining paddocks; tack room; pest control system; 60 ft. round pen; 120 X 180 outdoor riding arena; and 60 X 100 covered riding arena. Our newly-constructed second barn, with a raised center aisle for maximum ventilation, includes five stalls, with paddocks, and a tack room. Improvements on the new barn are in progress for an air-conditioned break room to include full plumbing, a refrigerator, and other amenities so you can stay all day and make yourself at home around good horses and friendly people.
Interesting History of the Bayou Meto: Today, the words "Bayou Meto" have various pronunciations but are most commonly spoken in our neck of the woods as BI-O (long I, long O) ME-TO (long E, long O). The Bayou Meto is a slow-moving stream of water that originates in northern Pulaski County, Arkansas, and travels 150 miles southeast before emptying into the Arkansas River. Back in the 1800's, the bayou served the region as a transportation corridor to the economy of eastern Arkansas. In 1840 the Bayou Meto Township in northern Pulaski County was created. Although the township is no longer an official entity, the area is still referred to as Bayou Meto.
